An estimated 366 million people worldwide have diabetes. This is projected to rise to 552 million by 2030.
The estimate of 366 million people with diabetes in 2011 represents a 30% increase from the estimate of 285 million in 2010. 183 million people (50%) with diabetes are undiagnosed.

The number of U.S. adults treated for diabetes more than doubled between 1996 and 2007
Approximately 19 million U.S. adults reported receiving treatment for diabetes in 2007. This is more than double the 9 million reporting receiving care in 1996.

There will be an estimated 70% increase in the number of adults with diabetes in the developing world and a 20% increased in the developed world between 2010 and 2030.

Every year, approximately 78,000 children worldwide develop type 1 diabetes.

China has an estimated 92.4 million adults with diabetes.
In China and other poorer nations, and an estimated 60% to 80% of people with diabetes are undiagnosed.
